This is Mexico’s highest volcano and the third highest in all of North America, surpassed only by Mount McKinley (Denali) in Alaska and Mount Logan in Canada. Anyone who wishes to explore it must be accompanied by a certified mountain guide with mountaineering equipment. The traditional route is along the volcano’s western side, facing Puebla. From the top of its peak, you can spot other mountains such as Iztaccíhuatl and Popocatépetl, La Malinche and Cofre de Perote.
