Nuestra Señora de los Remedios Sanctuary

This catholic church dedicated to Our Lady of Remedies was erected by the Spanish atop a past replete with indigenous gods that they were eager to cover up. It was built on the Great Pyramid of Tlachihualtépetl, which, over time would become a grass-covered hill. The church was consecrated in 1549. Since then, people have been gazing up at its beautiful, tile-covered dome and pondering its imperceptible dialogs with the smoking giant to the east, the Popocatépetl volcano.
