San Bas, a Magical Town in Nayarit, rests along Mexico‘s western coast, right where the Pacific Ocean laps gently against the shore and creates the most enchanting sunsets.

Your explorations should start in the heart of the Magical Town of San Blas. Here, you will have no problem finding a nutritious, delicious breakfast, just what you need to fill up on the energy you will need to uncover the area’s secrets.

The first thing we recommend you do is tour the Islas Marías. These islands were declared a nature reserve in 2000, and five years later they were proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 

Nor should you miss the Fuerte de la Contaduría. This stern fortress is one of the most historic spots in San Blas, as it was a naval base in New Spain a long time ago. You can also visit La Tovara, a lush natural spring populated by a variety of wildlife.

Later, visit one of the beautiful beaches, especially Playa Hermosa, Playa El Rey, and Playa del Borrego. Wrap up your day on the Muelle de San Blas enjoying the balmy sunset from the town’s dock.

Puerto Balleto

Set on María Madre island, the largest of the Islas Marías group, it was the islands’ biggest settlement and home to the penal colony, Colonia Penal Federal Islas Marías. Today, it is a lovely town focused on environmental conservation, cultural events, and tourism.
