Convent and Temple of San Pablo
It was once considered “the most magnificent building imaginable”. When you see this temple and convent, you will realize why.
Dedicated to Saint Paul, this monumental building was started in 1550 and finished in 1599. Its fine ornamentation was the work of indigenous people.
Its medieval fort-like appearance is due to the fact that the 16th-century Augustine monks wanted to protect themselves from Chichimeca attacks, and fulfill their goal of evangelizing the natives.
