Gertrudis Bocanegra Library and Emperador Caltzontzin Theater

Once a church, the former Templo de San Agustín today is home to the public library, whose walls are adorned with murals by Juan O’Gorman. They portray Michoacán’s history from the pre-Hispanic era to Independence. Next door is the Teatro Emperador Caltzontzin. This theater holds two murals: one about the meeting between King Tanganxoan II with Cristóbal de Olid, and another about the region’s artisans.
