Sample the Flavors of Bacalar while Enjoying the View of the Lagoon

Bacalar’s culinary traditions are influenced by the flavors of the Yucatán and the neighboring country of Belize. If you want to try something typical, ask for xpelón–a bean variety–or sotobichay–with Chaya leaves–tamales. And there is always puchero and chocolomo stews. For the Day of the Dead, mucbil chicken, a type of baked corn tamale, is a classic. Fish and seafood stews have a special place at the table, as well as pan de cazón–imagine a type of lasagna with tortillas and fish–and tikinxic–a fish stew with annatto seed and banana leaves. We recommend trying regional dishes in Kai Pez. It is dockside with a gorgeous view of the lagoon.
