The region’s cuisine is among the country’s most delicious. There are the famous Tarascan tamales, the white fish that is prepared in a multitude of ways, and tender uchepos and corundas—cousins of tamales, sweet and savory respectively—with a serving of frijoles de olla—home-style beans in broth. Even more traditional dishes are Tarascan bean and tomato soup, tamales de ceniza steamed in chard leaves, and even blackberry tamales. These delicacies can be found in restaurants along the lake and in the center of town.
