Gorditas (corn pockets stuffed with savory fillings), dulce de leche, sorbets and sotol (liquor distilled from a cactus) are all part of this lovely town’s cooking traditions.
Try the wheat gorditas or the classic ones made from corn (with traditional fillings such as pork crackling, black beans, or beef mince). For dessert, don’t miss mamones (cake with cinnamon flavor and a red glaze), dulce de leche, and calabazate (a dessert made from pumpkins). Or try one of Juan García’s delicious sorbets, the most popular are strawberry and walnut flavors, look for them on the center’s streets.
