Why You Should Go

Lookouts and Waterfalls

  • Puerta del Cielo: This point is called the Doorway to Heaven because of the feeling evoked by being at the highest point of all Querétaro’s roads. From here, you can look out over clouds, jutting mountain peaks, and the descent into picture-perfect Pinal de Amoles, a town that often disappears into thick fog.
  • Mirador de Cuatro Palos: Set in the tiny town of Cuatro Palos, this lookout point perched at over 8,858 feet above sea level offers one of the Sierra Gorda region’s most spectacular views. The best time to visit is at dawn to see the sea of clouds clear as the sun rises, revealing a breathtaking landscape.
  • Cascada El Chuveje: El Chuveje is one of Mexico’s highest falls, tumbling over 98 feet into a river that makes it the perfect campsite.
  • Puente de Dios: The Escanela river greens up this spot bursting with vegetation, water, and caves. They form a setting that is best experienced on foot and in lightweight clothing so you can take a dip or just enjoy the view and feel nature beating around you.
  • Cascada El Salto: Just going down the 359 steps to the waterfall is a challenge and great adventure. El Salto is located in an area dense with ferns, moss, and towering white poplar trees. The water plunges around 115 feet, forming a pool that is more than 49 feet around, as well as many small cascades as it continues on its way.
