Temple and Former Convent of Santo Domingo de Guzmán

Templo y Ex Convento de Santo Domingo de Guzmán

This famous 17th century Franciscan convent is found in Oxolotán. Simple yet powerful, it invites you to take a journey back in time. For almost 200 years, monks departed from here to go and evangelize the people living in the mountains. The building’s grandeur was diminished by floods and wars, until its restauration at the start of the 1990s. What used to be the kitchen and dining room is now the Museo de la Sierra (The Museum of the Mountains). Its four halls explain the history of the area and the building.
