Main Square

Without a doubt, the tall tower is the plaza’s main attraction. It was erected to celebrate the centenary of Mexico’s Independence in 1910. Among its decorative elements are several eagles in the pose preferred by Porfirio Díaz and of course, a grand clock at the top.

Next to the town square are two buildings with long archways. One is the Municipal Palace or Town Hall, holding the town’s government offices, and just next door is a spot you should definitely visit: Bugambilia ice cream shop. Here, try some of the region’s most traditional flavors such as: garambullo (cactus berry), guamishi (barrel cactus fruit), cheese with sour prickly pear, and nopal cactus with cheese.
