San Matías Parish Church

This is where the town’s patron saint is worshipped. The construction of Saint Matthias Church began in the 17th century and it underwent several modifications up until the 18th century.

Admire the fascinating indigenous technique of creating stone-chinked surface patterns on the lateral walls. Its baroque entrance still conserves many decorative elements, and oddly, on the frame of the choir window they discovered what seems to have once been the base of a large sculpture of Saint Michael Archangel, perhaps from the previous church that stood there.

In the Museum of Sacred Art, to one side, you will find works by Francisco Martínez and Miguel Cabrera.
