San Pedro Apóstol Church

Iglesia de San Pedro Apóstol

This church dedicated to Saint Peter the Apostle is located next to the National Museum of the Viceroyalty. It’s a baroque, 18th-century building that, in addition to having a neoclassical atrial facade, features baroque altarpieces painted by Miguel Cabrera. In the second half of the main nave there’s the Chapel of the Virgin of Loreto, with its classic facade. In the back of the church, you’ll find El Camarín de la Virgen and the El Relicario de San José chapel. These shrines are recognized as the maximum expressions of New Spanish art.
