If you would like to try regional fare, we recommend popping into Lejano Oriente restaurant on Juárez Avenue. Another appetizing option is to take a walk around Plaza de Armas and nosh on fat corn cakes called gorditas stuffed with stews, sweet rolls, cheese, tamales, milk candy, and sweet café de olla coffee. There also are several pool halls and bars right in line with Mapimí’s nostalgic and story-filled character.
What to Know
Mapimí’s cultural diversity is also seen in its indigenous peoples and their handicrafts. If you have a chance, visit the Tepehuan, Huichol, and Cora towns.
