Bocoles (filled corn dough pockets), zacahuil (Veracruz-style tamales), flor de izote broth, mole, and acoyotl tamales taste even better when accompanied by some besos papantecos (Kisses from Papantla), a drink made from vanilla, liqueur, and condensed milk.
To prepare your own version of the drink, head to the Mercado Hidalgo where you will find vanilla in pods, or as extract or powder. Make the most of your visit and buy a handicraft made from the vanilla plant. There are also textiles, baskets, clay, glazed ceramics, and wooden products.
