Between 1910 and 1920, the docks were set up, and the trajinera boats seen today started catering to tourists. Belem dock has outings to the Laguna de Xaltocán and Laguna de Caltongo. You can also walk through a greenhouse and stop by a handicraft market. If you are looking for something more nature focused, head to the Área Natural Protegida, a reserve where you can see the chinampa gardens. Glide through the quietest canals to spot native and migratory birds. Visit the Axolotario, where this amphibian endemic to the Valley of Mexico’s lake system is raised.
You can take an outing on one of the trajinera boats. Choose between hour-long rides, two-hour outings to the traditional zone, and packages that go into the uncultivated area, a few museums, and bird-watching.
