Head to Chunyaxché canal–a water entrance to the Sian Ka’an reserve–or Kaapechen lagoon. Here, it is possible to take boat rides through mangrove forests to observe Mayan ruins submerged in the water, swamps, and coastal lagoons, plus hundreds of birds, reptiles, and mammals that inhabit these wild lands.
Useful Information
Sian Ka’an’s cays are tiny islets that form canals linking up the lagoons. They are attributed to the Mayans, who used them to connect their inland centers with the coast.
