Venture Inside the Cueva de las Sardinas

The “Cave of the Sardines” is now a treasure for bio-speleologists, but for hundreds of years it was a ceremonial cave for the Zoque and Chole indigenous people. Walk amongst the plants until you reach the dark and silent cave. Inside, you will see a raised platform and the ground beneath it flooded with blue, milky water. Because of its geological characteristics and the fact that it is inhabited by extremophile bacteria, insects, and fish, it is unique in the world and constitutes genuine scientific heritage. Beyond this, being inside the bowels of the earth, listening to the water bubble up between the rocks and feeling what flutters in the darkness will be the highlight of your trip.
