What Makes It Magical

Zaragoza is a lovely Magical Town ringed by imposing mountains, dense forests, and cool, crystal-clear rivers and waterfalls. This is the destination for nature lovers and, like many places in Nuevo León, it is idyllic for ecotourism and adventure.

The town is in the southern part of the state, less than five hours from the city of Monterrey, in the Sierra Madre Oriental mountain range. Thanks to its great location, it offers visitors gorgeous views, with green forests and bodies of water that make this spot the perfect getaway.

Why You Should Go

If you want to take a break from the city and enjoy a destination full of culture, gastronomy, and surroundings filled with natural wonders, Zaragoza is just the spot for you. As it is a little far away, it could be the perfect spot for vacation during Holy Week or other holidays. Although the drive takes some five hours, the road itself is the perfect place to take in views of the state’s mountains, so you will definitely enjoy the way. And, if you pay attention and are lucky, you might even spot some regional wildlife.

Here you will also enjoy fresh air and the cool, shady trees. You can hike, soak up mountain views, cool off in the translucent pools, or just meander the town square for a pleasant afternoon.

At the Very Least

Relax in Parque Recreativo El Salto. This park spans almost 500 hectares and is the birthplace of the Blanco river, one of Nuevo León’s loveliest bodies of water. There are incredible waterfalls, such as Velo de Novia or El Salto. Plus, there are campgrounds, thatched roof shelters, bathrooms, grills, and even cabins. This is the ideal spot for a family getaway to enjoy the south of the state’s beautiful natural scenery.

Don’t Miss

  1. Explore the main plaza and see the town’s most important buildings, such as the San José church.
  2. If you want to know more about the region’s history, visit Museo Río Blanco. The museum exhibits fossils and historic objects that will give you a peek into the past.
  3. Another place where you can cool off and spend the day is La Chingada, a water park featuring pools of turquoise-colored water, perfect for beating the heat.
