What Makes It Magical

Less than two hours from Monterrey’s metropolitan area sits the Magical Town of General Terán, named after General Manuel Mier y Terán. It belongs to the citrus-growing area in Nuevo León and boasts the highest production percentage for all orange varieties. For this reason, the aroma of orange blossoms will welcome you into this lovely town that becomes the perfect getaway from the hubbub of the city.

General Terán is an oasis in the middle of Nuevo León’s desert. Surrounded by the municipalities of Los Ramones, Linares, Montemorelos, China, and Cadereyta Jiménez, it is marked by abundant vegetation and the Pilón river, which runs through it.

Why You Should Go

If you are looking to escape the city’s noise and pollution and want to head further afield than the Magical Town of Santiago, you have to visit General Terán. It offers a number of attractions—natural, historical, and cultural—to enrich your visit to Nuevo León’s citrus-growing region.

Also, the town tempts visitors with the state’s delicious traditional cuisine. Here you can sample freshly prepared dishes of slow-roasted barbacoa, a type of shredded meat; young goat; and machacado, cured and crushed beef. In addition, the town offers extreme activities, such as skydiving, for the biggest thrill seekers.

At the Very Least

Take it easy in Parque Recreativo El Sabino Gordo. This park is especially family friendly, with swimming pools, a wading pool, open-air theater, playgrounds, showers, and thatched roof shelters. What’s more, a Montezuma Cypress tree that grows here is estimated to be about 1,000 years old.

Don’t Miss

  1. Delight in the fragrance of the orange trees and blossoms. Orange season runs from September to October and November to April.
  2. Explore Juárez square, where you can admire the Palacio Municipal, or town hall.
  3. Visit Los Mimbres dam, one of the town landmarks. Here you can fish for several types of bass, carp, and bream.
