The municipality of Tetiz hosts the celebration of the Assumption of Mary when the Catholic faithful in the town and neighboring areas organize a pilgrimage in the month of November. The Virgin is taken to the municipalities of Hunucmá, Kinchil, Celestún, Samahil, and Sisal. In the latter town, the Virgin is placed in the chapel of San José so the locals may visit her. Then, on the last day, she is returned to her sanctuary after a morning mass.
The Virgin is received with flowers and fanfare. The townspeople joyfully take part in the ritual, strengthening the bonds of their community.
