This festival came to be in honor of the memory of singer and cultural promoter Alfonso Ortiz Tirado, who popularized the work of Mexican composers abroad.
Its program includes concerts with local, national, and international artists, and those from Sonora’s indigenous peoples—the Mayo, Comcaác, Cucapá, Macurawe, Pima, Tohono O’odham, Kikapú, and Yaqui nations—who present their cultures through food shows, traditional medicine, sales of handicrafts, and music and dance in their indigenous languages, traditional customs, and in dialogues.
