What Makes it Magical

Surrounded by incredibly beautiful cliffs and canyons is the gorgeous Magical Town of Guachochi, in Chihuahua. This is a place that feels like home, because its inhabitants make an effort to keep it that way. They are more than willing to show and share the natural beauty their town has to offer.

One of the marvels you can experience when you visit this Magical Town is the Lago de las Garzas (Heron Lake), a stunning fresh water spring that is shaped by the water of the Río Guachochi. Its perimeter is lined by a walkway, and its center boasts a bronze sculpture of the birds that inhabit the area. It’s no coincidence that the name Guachochi derives from the rarámuri phrase for “place of the herons”.

Very close to the lake you can find the Cascada del Salto, a 56-foot high waterfall. This beautiful place is where local people come to find calm, as well as the perfect spot for morning exercise. You will find them here from the very early hours, wishing one another good morning as their day begins.

Why You Should Go

  • Guachochi is the only city in Chihuahua with a natural lake and a waterfall at its center. Its recreational ecopark adds diverse species to the state’s ecosystem.
  • La Sinforosa is the second deepest ravine within the Sierra Tarahumara mountain range and in Guachochi you can travel through it by land or in the air.

Guachochi is a majestic scene within the Sierra Tarahumara, the perfect place to enjoy the summer flora, when the fields are filled with flowers, as well as the snowcapped mountains during the winter.
