The sound of the rushing water of the rivers that cross the town can be heard everywhere, as well as the wind blowing through the trees that fill its streets and plazas.

This picture perfect place lies in the state’s central region. Its beautiful nature is among its top attractions, with unmissable places such as the Sima de las Cotorras (Parrot Chasm), where you can watch flocks of these birds descending in circles every afternoon when they return to their abyss after feeding. 

El Aguacero is another important place to visit in Ocozocoautla de Espinosa. This waterfall lies within a federal zone and protected natural area: the Reserva de la Biósfera El Ocote. You can cross the uneven landscape using the 724 stairs that take you almost 3,000 feet downwards. There are two viewpoints: La Tortuga and El Zopilote, as well as an underground river, restaurant and rest area.

At the Very Least

One of the most emblematic places in Ocozocoautla de Espinosa is the Iglesia de San Juan Bautista, which dates back to the 16th century. This is one of the state’s oldest churches, and it conserves its original architecture despite the various modifications to its façade. It has Mudejar influences and is listed as one of the National Institute of Anthropology and History’s historic monuments.

  1. Enjoy this Magical Town from up high in the club dedicated to flying sports, Valle Bonito. You can see places such as the Sima de las Cotorras, the Cañón de la Venta, as well as the Conchuda and El Aguacero waterfalls through this experience. 
  2. Visit the small archeological center of Zoque origin, on Cerro Ombligo, close to the San Miguel neighbourhood. 
  3. See the city from the viewpoint named Mirador de la Cruz. From the top of this hill you can appreciate a wonderful panorama of the city. You can also exercise here whilst enjoying the beautiful landscapes.
