This is the country’s second most important museum, after Mexico City’s National Museum of Anthropology. With more than 25,000 pieces placed chronologically, they simulate a journey from the south to the north of the state. Here you will learn about the country’s first cultures, which appeared in the south of Veracruz, and see how those that followed afterwards settled further north every time, until the arrival of the colonial era.
Amongst the most significant pieces you will see the colossal heads, La Dualidad sculpture, La Estela de la Mojarra stela and El Señor de las Limas statue. Pay special attention to the almost life-sized terracotta effigies from El Zapotal, which represent the death of women due to childbirth.
