Relax in Parque de la Bombilla
Historic, emblematic and cozy, this park is one of the municipality’s unmissable spots.
As a recreational space, it began on the 17th of July, 1935, when the then-president of Mexico, the general Lázaro Cárdenas, inaugurated it. Ever since then, it became a favorite of those who live in the area.
Its green spaces, playpark, fountains and lighting make it the perfect place for meeting up and spending time together. On its esplanade, different events take place, such as the Flower Festival of San Ángel.
The land that the park occupies was once the house of Mrs. Dolores Sanz, then it was bought by the Spanish man Emilio Casado Medrano, who refurbished it to create the famous restaurant La Bombilla. It had an extensive garden, a forested area, a stream with a bridge crossing it, kiosks, large canteens, a bar and banquet halls. Soon it became one of the most frequented restaurants in the outskirts of the city, especially for social and political meetings. This is where Álvaro Obregon was assassinated, during the banquet put on for him by Guanajuato’s delegates.
